Custom liposomes and LNP Synthesis

Custom liposomes and LNP Synthesis

Synthetic nanoparticles, made to spec

Custom liposomes and LNPs designed and characterized in the Core. Two distinct use cases: (1) particle-count-matched synthetic comparators for rigorous EV functional studies, and (2) standalone synthetic nanoparticle work for groups that need a defined synthetic carrier rather than EVs - including formulation support for GMP-bound programs at UC Davis and partner sites.

Particle-count-matched EV comparators

Custom liposomes synthesized at matched size and concentration to a client EV prep. Run in parallel through the bioactivity panel so the EV-specific effect is separable from a generic particle effect - a routine inclusion in our Discovery-tier bioactivity work.

Standalone formulation (non-EV)

For clients whose program doesn't actually require EVs: we design, synthesize, and characterize custom liposome and LNP formulations against your target size, surface chemistry, and payload spec. Useful for early formulation development, dose-finding, and synthetic-carrier comparator work.

GMP-adjacent & translational support

Research-grade design and characterization that interlocks with downstream GMP manufacturing - including coordination with the UC Davis GMP Cell & Gene Therapy program. We do not run GMP synthesis ourselves; we support the analytical and formulation work that feeds it.

Composition & payload

Defined lipid compositions (DOPC, DSPC, cholesterol, PEG-lipids, ionizable lipids), surface functionalization (PEG, targeting ligands), and payload encapsulation (small molecules, nucleic acids). Designed against your project's spec.

Characterization included

Every batch includes NTA + RPS sizing, polydispersity, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency where applicable, and stability tracking. Cryo-EM structural confirmation on request.

Iterative formulation

Multi-round formulation optimization with quick-turn characterization between iterations - designed for groups still landing on a final spec.
